1In the twenty-third year of Joash son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz son of Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria for seventeen years.2He did evil in the eyes of the LORD. He followed the sin of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he caused Israel to sin. He did not turn from it.3And the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he gave them into the hand of Hazael king of Aram and into the hand of Ben-hadad son of Hazael all the days.4Jehoahaz appeased the face of the LORD, and the LORD heard him, for he saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Aram oppressed them.5And the LORD gave Israel a savior, and they went out from under the hand of Aram, and the sons of Israel dwelt in their tents, as yesterday, three days ago.6But they did not turn aside from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, which he caused Israel to sin by it. It walked, and also the Asherah pole stood in Samaria.7For he did not leave to Jehoahaz people except fifty horsemen and ten chariots and ten thousand foot soldiers, for the king of Aram destroyed them and made them like dust for threshing.8Now the rest of the words of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might—are they not written in the book of the words of the days for the kings of Israel?9Jehoahaz lay down with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria, and Joash his son reigned in his place.
